Aims + Objectives
My aim of this project is to portray light. As light is a key element in photography I want to show its significance in everyday life. The stance I have chosen is to show how light is a source of comfort for people. Looking from the perspective of someone who is scared of the dark and finds comfort in a light source. I decided to portray it from a child’s perspective, as being scared of dark is a common situation for children. Based around the child’s perspective I decided the setting should be a child’s bedroom. I found this setting gives off a slightly paedophilic notion. I want to embrace this sinister feeling as I think it will help portray the idea that light is a source of comfort and relief.
I have two children’s bedrooms and want to compare day and night situations. I decided to use a soft toy from each of the bedrooms to help portray the child’s perspective as well as another representation of comfort. Further thinking about light, I think highlighting the subject with overlaid light painting will enhance the work.
I chose this idea because when I thought of light it initially reminded me of the nightlight I use to have as a child. I don’t think I was highly scared of the dark, but I found comfort in the nightlight. This is how the idea arose and I wanted to portray it from a child’s perspective and in a realistic room, so convince the idea of the dark being a sadistic scary place and light is a source of comfort. My audience is also aimed at children, and to verify my images I asked my little brother and sister to give me feed back on the images.
I will produce a series of four or five images that will portray the idea that light is a source of comfort. Using also a teddy bear to help generate the idea of comfort.
